Box Set: Lamb of God

With the recent announcement that Lamb of God will release seventh album “Resolution” early next year, now seems a good time to take a look at their studio history at the latest in our Box Set series. Lamb of God have been a firm favourite of mine from the first time I heard a tiny snippet on a Wanadoo Broadband advert (which you can see at the bottom of the page).

Forming in 1994 under the moniker Burn the Priest, Lamb of God have released 6 studio albums, a live album and three DVD’s. They’ve supported some of the biggest names in metal such as Motorhead, and toured the world several times over under their own headline banner. Lamb of God have come a long way over the years and have firmly placed themselves as one of the top metal bands of the last decade. Continue reading

Primal Scream – Riot City Blues (2006)

After a number of darker electronic influenced albums, Riot City Blues starts with the fantastic ‘County Girl’, a country-tinged sing-a-long which 1970’s Rolling Stones would have been extremely happy with. Indeed, within their own catalogue of material it would fit nicely on their Give Out But Don’t Give Up album.

As this vibe continues through ‘Nitty Gritty’ and on to ‘Suicide Sally & Johnny Guitar’ it starts to become clear that what we have is a collection of upbeat rock n’ roll songs. Then just when you feel a euphoric party is about to ensue there is the bleak ‘When The Bomb Drops’ with long whining guitar overtones and darker lyrics, followed by the Indian-sounding ‘Little Death’ which is dreamlike and somewhat psychedelic with its repeating chants for a long 6 minutes.
